Cost per lead is not the number that matters

Why cheap leads can be the most expensive thing you buy.

A cheap lead that never answers costs more

Cost per lead is easy to see in an ad account, so it gets all the attention. But a lead is only worth something if someone can turn it into a customer.

If one ad brings leads at half the price but few of them pick up the phone, it is the more expensive ad.

Track the chain

Follow each lead through four steps: reached, qualified, offered, won. Then divide spend by customers won. That is your real cost to get a customer.

Even a simple sheet your sales team updates is enough to start.

What to do with it

Stop judging ads by the lead price alone. Judge them by cost per qualified lead first, then by cost per customer once you have enough data.

Our Lead Cost and ROAS calculator runs this chain with your own numbers.
